ABOUT

HISTORY

Badstuerock is located in Badstuegade 22 in Aarhus’ latin quarter, and is one of Denmark's oldest still running independent record stores. The history of the latin quarter dates back to the 14th century, where originally laid viking fortifications are found.

Badstuerock opened its doors for the first time in 1973 with its original owner Mike D’Agustues.

Shop

Mike, aged 22 at the time, had lived in a nearby street and created Badstuerock. He quickly procured stock by buying 19.000 kroner of used records from the Cambridge University Library and in addition contacted English record companies and bought anything they could acquire from records they liked.

Mike remembers an iconic moment in the early days of him ordering 600 copies of ‘Jimmy Cliffs; The Harder They Come’. Shortly after a lawsuit resulted in the end of production, so Badstuerock was virtually the only store in Europe that had stock of this record.

In 1999 Mike opened a second store ‘Dandelion’ which focused on selling records and Badstuerock to sell CD’s, then in 2007 closed 'Dandelion'.

Today's owner, Bjørn, has run Badstuerock since the departure of Mike - they had worked together at Badstuerock for 10 years prior.
